Kim Dong Yoo
김동유 b.1965, Korea
김동유는 목원대학교 미술대학 회화과와 동대학원 서양화과를 졸업하였으며, 그의 작품 <마릴린 먼로vs 마오 각주>가 2006년 홍콩 크리스티 경매에서 3억 2000만원에 낙찰되면서 국제적 명성을 얻기 시작했고, 2007년 같은 경매에서 <마릴린 먼로 vs 존F. 케네디>가 약 7억 4800만원에 낙찰되었다. 이는 당시 생존 대한민국 국내 작가로는 해외 경매 최고가를 기록이었다. 국제 미술 사이트 ‘아트프라이스’의 발표에 따르면 ‘1945년 이후 출생한 세계 현대 미술 작가 중 최근 1년간 가장 많이 거래된 작가 100명’ 가운데 55위에 들었는데, 한국 작가로는 유일했다.
Dongyoo Kim graduated from Mokwon University’s College of Fine Arts before graduating from Mokwon Graduate School in Western Painting. As his <Marilyn Monroe vs Mao> painting sold for $250,000 at Christie’s auction in 2006, he gained international fame in the art market. He is known for his “pixel-mosaic painting”, which are images made by smaller cells of other images.
